The ETFO and OSSTF collective agreements expired on August 31, 2019. OTTAWA — Ottawa`s public elementary schools will be closed Monday when elementary school teachers leave their jobs. The Ottawa Carleton District School Board says all elementary schools will be closed on Monday if ETFO continues with one-day strike plans. The Elementary Federation of Ontario (ETFO) has announced plans to make a one-day stop on Monday, January 20, 2020, unless an agreement is reached before Friday, January 17. On Wednesday, all OCDSB elementary and secondary schools were closed due to a one-day strike by the Ontario Secondary School Teen Federation.
The OCDSB notes that the OSSTF represents teaching workers and auxiliaries in primary schools and forces the board of directors to close primary schools for this day. In Ottawa, ETFO represents elementary school teachers and opportunity teachers. The Ontario Elementary Teachers Federation has announced that it will begin rotating strikes on January 20 if no agreement is reached with the province by the end of the week. ETFO says the first round of one-day strikes would target the Ottawa Carleton District School Board, the Toronto District School Board and the York District School Board.
